Abstract The benefits of physical activity are widely acknowledged. Being active is essential for physical and mental wellbeing and academic and social development. In County Durham, we want our children to have the best start in life. Locally the challenge is how we bring about real change within our communities. The multi-agency, Active 30 subgroup of the Active Durham partnership has worked with schools to develop two strands of work to support schools to enable children to be more active: Active 30 Durham Hub. A website providing schools with a centralised bank of resources to support achievement of Active 30. The hub includes national and local resources, lessons, evidence, and case studies to help schools make the day active for every child.Active 30 Durham Campaign. Schools join Active 30, pledging to become an Active School and working towards a fitter, healthier future for pupils. Schools pledge to work towards all children achieving 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous activity every day in school. Schools can work towards 3 levels: Active 10, 20 or 30, using awards developmentally to work from 10 minutes of activity for all children, every day, alternatively, they can aim straight for Active 30. This staged approach acknowledges the impact of inequalities across the county. Currently over 150 schools are taking forward Active 30. Early impact data and case studies show benefits around fitness, behaviour, concentration, confidence, attention and teamwork. Initially Active 30 focussed upon primary settings however we are developing work to engage early years settings. External funding details
