Abstract IntroductionLambeth is a densely populated, young and ethnically diverse borough with high levels of deprivation. In common with many urban areas, access and understanding of outdoor nature is limited. The benefits of connecting children to nature have been well documented showing that children's social, psychological, academic and physical health is positively impacted when they have daily contact with nature.Working through nurseries and schools, the 'Natural Thinkers' is a Lambeth created programme which focuses on setting early foundations for nursery and school children and their families to get involved with nature, with healthy food being the main component,MethodNurseries and schools were encouraged to commit to the delivery of action across ten areas which includes gardening, access to natural outdoor areas, picking and tasting produce, engaging with the weather and seasons, and caring for the environment. Parents needed to be involved and school staff trained to effectively deliver and evidence action. Results • Over 70% of Lambeth schools and 100% state nurseries participated.• Observed benefits to pupils included; more engagement with nature, better awareness about healthy eating, increased levels of outdoor activities, more confident children with improved communication, speech, language and listening skills• Parents further engaged with the settings and the initiative influenced family life positivelyConclusion• The programme has achieved significant scale and successful track record• There is overwhelming positive feedback on the programme from children, parents, nurseries and schools.• Lambeth has now developed a 'Natural Thinkers' package offer to other boroughs in the country. External funding details Mayor of London
