Abstract The PHE Compendium of Chemical Hazards (COCH) is a free, online resource providing concise information on approximately 70 hazardous chemicals. The COCH can be used as a tool for anyone dealing with chemical emergencies, environmental hazards or those wanting more information on hazardous chemicals. The majority of the chemical entries have three sections; general information, incident management and toxicological overview. Each of these is compiled from existing evidence obtained from multiple authoritative sources.During the financial year 2016-2017, the COCH achieved 96, 000 views and 54, 737 downloads. The users of the COCH and how the information is used varies widely; within the PHE Centre for Radiation and Chemical and Environmental hazards (CRCE) the COCH is used to address enquiries from the public, and other Government Departments/Agencies and when responding to chemical incidents. Members of the public use the COCH when searching for information on chemicals that have received media attention. This is evident in a number of case studies where peaks in downloads have been recorded during chemical incidents.A recent customer satisfaction survey on the COCH has demonstrated that the tool has a number of limitations and that there is a desire to improve the usability and accessibility of the documents. In particular, there is a need to improve and increase the use of the tools to support colleagues working in public health chemicals emergencies, and for anyone who is interested in chemical hazards. This poster will give further information about how this will be achieved.
